Play Half-Life Alyx on your Steam Deck - No VR Required

Three years after the release of VR's crowning jewel, two modders, Björn Feber and Esdras Tarsis on GitHub have created a solution to remove Half-Life Alyx's biggest barrier of entry. As a side effect, the Steam Deck is now capable of playing Half-Life Alyx through an unofficial mod.

This mod is still in production. Not every portion of the game is considered playable yet. Some portions may require the use of no-clip to progress.

While the experience isn't going to   be the true magic that VR provides to Half-Life Alyx, the ability to map motion to familiar keybindings and controllers brings players to a Half-Life game that was previously out of reach for many due to a variety of reasons.

While this guide covers the Steam Deck, Windows users can follow a similar method to patching the game.

Start by downloading the .ZIP file over on GitHub by clicking on the "Code" drop-down option.

Inside the .Zip file you will find the "game" folder. Copy or cut the file so it's saved in your clipboard, then head on over to Steam and find Half-Life Alyx.

Right-click the game in Steam and click "Properties" and then choose the "Local Files" option near the middle of the options on the left panel.
