You Haven't Seen The Last of PC Ports from PlayStation

It's been a slow and rocky start for PlayStation ports on PC this year. Starting with a disappointing release of The Last of Us Part I that is only favoring new GPUs with high amounts of VRAM, the silence from Sony's release schedule for PC was concerning compared to last year's rapid release patterns.

There has been speculation about a Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart PC port from Sony's newly acquired internal studio, Nixxes seems to be on the table because of a job posting requesting knowledge of middleware software that Sony only used with Ratchet and Clank's PS5 outing. Despite this, Sony hasn't publicly announced any titles coming to PC in 2023.

Though that silence may soon break. In a financial earnings report, Sony noted in a bullet point their stance on the future of the PC platform.

We are also planning to release a major title, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, this fiscal year, and we aim to continue creating new IP, rolling out catalog titles for PC and strengthening live game service development.

In the same report, it was noted by PC Gamer that the category that Sony lumped their PC game market sales into has nearly tripled in the past year since PC games from Sony have become available.

Even with a hustle at the end of 2022 of great PS5 titles, games like Demon's Souls, Destruction AllStars, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut, Horizon: Forbidden West, Gran Turismo 7, and God of War: Ragnarök all have yet to make their leap to PC.

While Ratchet seems to be likely to see a PC port soon, Sony Pictures is gearing up to release a Gran Turismo movie based on a real-life racer whose experience playing Gran Turismo helped him become a professional race car driver. A PC port of Gran Turismo 7 would slot in nicely to tie in with the movie too– much like how The Last of Us' TV show was timed to (originally) end when the PC version of the game would release).
