Privacy

This page describes what this site collects and what happens to it. It's a plain description, not legal advice, and it should be reviewed by a qualified professional before anyone relies on it as such.

Reading the site. You can read every public page here without an account and without giving us anything.

Analytics. We run a self-hosted copy of Umami on our own server, not a third party's. It is cookieless, it does not follow you to other sites, and it does not build a profile of you. What we see is aggregate: how many people opened a page, roughly where in the world they were, and what referred them.

If you use the contact form. It stores your name, your email address, and what you wrote, along with the topic you picked. That's so a message can't get lost - we'd rather have a record of it than miss it.

If you sign up for the newsletter. We store your email address so we can send it. That's the only thing it's used for. It is never sold or rented to anyone, including a sponsor or an advertiser.

If you make an account. We store your email address and, if you set them, a username and display name. The display name is what other people see - your real name is never shown publicly unless you choose it as your display name. You can sign in with an emailed link instead of a password.

If the site personalizes what you see. While you are signed in, we record which items you opened - once per item per day - and build up a picture of the topics you tend to read. That is used for one thing: ordering your feed so the stuff you care about is nearer the top. It is never sold, never shared, and never used to target advertising. It is on by default and you can turn it off in your account settings, which stops new signals being recorded. Deleting your account deletes the whole profile with it.

If you take part in a community section. Where a site here has one, we store what you submit - a tip, a review, or a reply - along with the account that sent it, and the points you earn for taking part. Anything approved is shown publicly with your display name on it, never your real name or your email address.

Your data, your call. Ask us and we'll tell you what we hold about you, or delete it - your account, your newsletter subscription, or a message you sent us. Use the contact form, choose the privacy topic, and say what you want. You don't need to give a reason.
