Players take on the role of a mechanic working alongside Deep Cut, a trio of swashbuckling musicians, exploring the mysterious Spirhalite Islands. Characters can be customized with mechanical gadgets and ink-splattering weapons as they raid the islands for salvage.
The game is primarily a single-player adventure, with one member of Deep Cut joining as an AI-controlled ally in a powerful bot during raids against waves of enemies called Salmonids.
Cooperative play is also supported, allowing up to three other players to join online or via local wireless.
